Location notes
A field entrance next to the GW main line running between Westbury and Taunton. The junction from the Mendip Quarry of Merehead is a mile or so to the west.
Railway type and traffic
A busy location on the GW main line with a staple diet of cross country DMU services as well as First Great Western HSTs and sometimes loco-hauled services.
The main freight flow is the stone trains to and from the Mendip quarry at Merehead. These are hauled by classes 59, 60 and 66.
Environment
Open fields in the Wiltshire countryside.
Road directions
From the A361 at Blatchbridge take the B2093 towards, and through, West Woodlands and Alder Row. After Alder Row there is a right turn into Bunns Lane and this will lead you to the location.

Parking
There is a small lay-by at the location which would accomodate 3 or 4 cars.
Amenities
Nothing at the location, but there is a Sainsburys and other food outlets in Frome.

Photographic notes
The favoured shot at this location is of a west bound train, with the light being best from 11:00 onwards. The eastbound shot, from inside the field, is quite tight.

The view from the road bridge.
16 August, with 67021 leading the 09:09 Bristol-Weymouth. There was actually a bit of sun 10 minutes earlier and I can confirm that there were no shadows on the track at that time (about 10:00).
