Location notes
A foot crossing in open farmland about 1/4 of a mile from Felixstowe North Dock.
Railway type and traffic
No passenger service along this line. Its primary use is for freight traffic in and out of Felixstowe docks. These services are operated by Freightliner, DB Schenker and GBRf.
Environment
A public foot path between Trimley St Mary and Felixstowe. Although it is a right of way the path runs through private land on the Trimley side. There are some woods for shelter but that aside the area is quite open to the elements.
Road directions
From the A14 heading towards Felixstowe:
Come off at the Trimley junction (signposted Trimley / Kirton). At the roundabout turn left along High Road and the station, on Station Road, is signposted. The station car park is before the level crossing.
Once parked walk over the level crossing and continue along Cordys lane till you reach a bridleway on your left. Walk down this bridleway, past the gate and you will reach the railway which is on an embankment above you. From here turn right and walk down the footpath to for another few hundred yards and you will reach the foot crossing.

Parking
Due to the size of the road it is probably best to park your car at Trimley Station and walk.

Photographic notes
The line is a quite steep gradient coming out of the docks and heading up towards Trimley and given the curvature of the line it is possible to get an American shot of the front of the train with the back of the train behind it.
For video the trains will coast down the bank, so will only really make flange squealing noises but that aside you have the distant noise of the docks to add to the ambience.

Building work has commenced on some industrial units to the west of the location - see Fig 7

From further along the footpath the line climbing out of the dock can be seen. Locos will be working hard here to accelerate their trains from starting off at the docks just round the corner.

Building works and laying of the foundations have now commenced on the southern side of the foot crossing at Clickett Hill in readiness for the light industrial units that are being built. Footpaths numbers 14 and 30 are now diverted until further notice.
