New Mobile Site
We have just launched a new mobile version of this site - m.trainspots. This page will use your smart device's GPS to loctate you and guide you to locations that are close to your present location.
Location notes
Horwich is on the line from Preston to Bolton and Manchester and is about 5 miles North-West of Bolton. The station of Horwich Parkway is adjacent to the M61, a large retail park and Bolton Wanderers stadium.
Railway type and traffic
There is a regular passenger service on the line provided by classes 150/156/158 and 175 with a two hourly Voyager from Edinburgh. The line is also used as a diversionary route when the WCML is closed south of Preston for engineering.
Environment
The footbridge north of the station is quiet with only dog-walkers using it but due to the proximity of Bolton Wanderers stadium, Manchester Utd tops, etc, may be inadvisable. It would also be best to check if they are playing at home before going due to traffic congestion.
Road directions
Middlebrook Retail Park and Horwich Parkway station are well signposted from Junction 6 of the M61.

Photographic notes
There is a footbridge immediately north of the station which gives good views of trains heading towards Manchester especially dinner time to early afternoon. Late afternoon the sun starts to favour north bound trains heading through the station. The footbridge can be reached by the public footpath which goes through the station car park and out at the north end of it.
