Location notes
Update 20-07-08:
This location would seem to have been fenced off now making the shots described here unavailable.

Horse Cove is just west of Dawlish on the coast between Exeter and Newton Abbot on the West of England Main Line.
Railway type and traffic
A busy two track railway, and station, with frequent First Great Western HSTs and local units (of 143, 150, 153 and occasional 158 varieties), as well as Cross Country Voyagers and HSTs.
Some freight, namely a weekly DB Schenker fuel oil train and Colas log train, occasional Network Rail test trains too.
There is a weekly China Clay train that runs on Thursdays in the late afternoon from the west and the locomotive returns light a few hours later.
Environment
Horse Cove is next to a footpath on top of the cliffs outside Dawlish. The area is fairly sheltered and is very quiet.
Road directions
The A379 leads from Exeter and the end of the M5 to Dawlish. After passing through the town the road climbs the cliffs. After about a mile there is a road on the right signposted towards a small hospital and opposite this there is a public footpath heading down some wooden stairs and along the edge of a field towards the sea. This footpath crosses a small footbridge over a stream and just after this you can push through some bushes to overlook the railway.

The light is best here from just after dinner until early afternoon. Pictures can only be taken of westbound trains as they emerge from the tunnel.
