Spittal is located 3 miles west of Drem on the main Edinburgh - Newcastle ECML route.
Railway type and traffic
This is a main line with both freight and passenger services.
Passenger services are NXEC HSTs and Class 91+DVT with hourly Virgin Cross Country Voyager services and the hourly Edinburgh - North Berwick EMU working.
Freight workings are mainly EWS coal trains from Hunterston or Millerhill to North East locations - mainly Tyne Yard with Freightliner cement trains from Dunbar to Inverness and Aberdeen plus the weekly Torness - Sellafield DRS service.

Environment
The location is open fields on a road which parallels the main line.
Road directions
Take the main A1 to Haddington village. Turn left (if travelling East ) or right (if traveling West) onto the A6137 marked 'Aberlady'. At the roundabout just in front of the ECML turn left onto the B1377 marked 'Spittal' and choose your spot.

Park on the grass verge; there is little local traffic and there will be no obstruction.

The line is on an east - west axis and the light is good for most of the day.
